Hindu religion is famous for so many symbols it used to connecting with Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa . In Hinduism a symbol is known as a means of a true substitution.

Upakara concerns the macrocosmos contents of nature and the microcosmos of human being. It is represented by natural materials of high significance.Together these contents are presented to Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa to achieve a balance of all aspects of life which is calles as  Tri Hita Karana.

There are two types penjor i.e. Sacred Penjor and Decorative Penjor aka Pepenjoran.

Sacred Penjor will always be a part of religious ceremonies such as Galungan and piodalan at pura.

While Decorative Penjor / Pepenjoran is used in the village festivals, arts performance etc. Sacred Penjor contains sanggah penjor, pala bungkah and pala gantung, sampiyan, lamak, jajan etc while Decorative Penjor / Pepenjoran does not.

 

Penjor originate from the word “Penjor”, which means , “Pengajum”, or “Pengastawa”, then lost the nasal “Ny” letter takes on a noun that being said, “Penyor” which have the intent and understanding “As Means To Implement Pengastawa”.

Hindus in Bali on the Galungan day would plugged Sacred Penjor on Tuesday / Anggara wara / wuku Dungulan known as the day of Penampahan Galungan which means the truth upholding. It is mounted or attached to the configurable front right of the entrance yard. If the house faces north then penjor plugged in the east entrance of the yard. Sanggah and arches penjor end facing the street. Penjor material is a bamboo curved edges, decorated with young coconut / palm leaves and other foliage / “plawa”. Penjor Supplies are :

Pala Wija = rice, corn etc.

+ Ardha Candra complete with offerings. Sanggah Ardha Candra is made of bamboo, with rectangular and semi-circular arched roof basic shapes that resembles a crescent shape.

At the other end hung sampiyan penjor penjor complete with porosan and flowers.


Penjor mounting purposes are as Swadharma Hindus to realize a sense of devotion and gratitude presented to Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa as well as gratitude for the prosperity bestowed bys Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa. High arched bamboo is a picture of the highest mountain as a sacred place. Ornaments consisting of coconut, banana, sugarcane, rice, snacks and fabrics are representatives of all endowed food and clothing by Hyang Widhi Wasa.

Penjor Galungan is the nature penjor relegius, which has a specific function in religious ceremonies, and shall be made complete with its offerings. In terms of shape penjor is a symbol of Earth with all the results, which gives life and salvation. Earth or soil described as two dragons i.e. Naga Basuki and Ananta Bhoga.

 

Penjor is also a mountain symbol, which provides safety and welfare. Ornaments of various leaves like daun cemara, andong, paku pipid, pakis aji etc. Fruits of rice, corn, coconut, cassava, bananas including pala bungkah, pala wija and pala gantung plus snack, sugar cane and money.

Therefore, to make a sacred penjor require certain conditions in the sense of it should be in accordance with the provisions penjor Literature Religion. Indeed, these elements of penjor are sacred symbols, as the foundation lawyer aplikasian Vedic teachings.
